The Cadet Squad at Kingston Royals provides lessons for children aged 5–9 years old. Lessons will take them from basic water confidence to stroke development and ultimately some will make it to the Club’s main competitive squad. Overview of our Cadet Programme.
Older joiners (7/9 years) will need to be swimming already with a knowledge of all four strokes, and younger swimmers will need to be happy and confident to take part in a group lesson in the shallow teaching pool. Places will not be offered to those who require one-to-one teaching or are not comfortable in the water.
Entry to Cadets is via the waiting list so the sooner you register your child the better - there is no lower age limit to signing up! Children will be invited to a trial session a term after they turn five, based on the numbers on the waiting list.
There are four intakes per year in January, April, July and October. Every child will be assessed and placed according to their ability. Once swimmers have progressed through the Cadet programme an assessment will be made as to whether they have achieved sufficient stroke technique in all four strokes as well as the stamina to move to full membership of the KRSC competitive squads. This move is by invitation only and at the discretion of the coaches.
The Cadet scheme is led by Jo Clark. Lessons take place at The Kingfisher Pool in Kingston or Malden Leisure Centre in New Malden. If you would like to join, please complete the on-line application form.
