For children who cannot swim or may have only the ability to paddle a few strokes, from the age of 5 For children who have attended Level 1 or who show an ability of a similar level For children who have attended Level 2 course or who show an ability of a similar level
Aims:    
Swim on their front or back without swim aids for a distance of approx. 10 metres

Basic stroke techniques

How to enter the pool

Progress the level of stroke ability

Introduce basic skills of breaststroke

Swim a distance of 15 metres on front and back

Improve on present level of stroke ability

Able to swim frontcrawl, backstroke and breaststroke with confidence in the deeper water of the shallow end of the main pool

Basic techniques of butterfly

COURSE ASSESSMENTS FOR
CADET LEVELS 1,2,3, Improver levels 1 - 4 & Advanced levels

At the end of each Cadet Training Group Course, assessments will be carried out to ensure that the necessary standards have been achieved to progress onto the next relevant course.

Only at the discretion of the course teacher and club coach can any child re-register for the same course, as this will prevent other children on the waiting list from attending.

Entry via level 3 of from the waiting list by having an ability of a similar level. Entry via level 4-Improvers or showing an ability of a similar level Entry via Improvers level 6 or showing a similar level
AIMS:    
Extend distances

Maintain steady improvement of techniques, skills & drills

Build confidence to progress into middle and deep water groups

Introduce preliminary skills of starts of the 4 strokes

Develop stroke ability and endurance to cope with the lengths of Improver levels

Technique work on the various strokes to ensure stroke quality can be maintained

Progressive increase in distance work

Work on starts

Introduce skills and techniques of turns for the 4 strokes

Achieve maximum potential within teaching scheme

Ensure those potential swimmers are invited into KRSC

Achieve sufficient levels of stroke and stamina for the early stages of training with the Tadpoles squad

Follow-on from Advanced levels 1, 2, 3

Those swimmers who have shown the ability to perform to higher standards may be invited to an additional session, held at the Malden Centre on a Tuesday evening (time of session will vary according to cadet group). The aim of these sessions is to prepare the swimmers for the possibility of achieving standards set for entry into the Tadpole squad and become involved in a progressive programme of competitive swimming structure within Kingston Royals Swimming Club.
