WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU?

After getting through a tough selection process to join the Club you often wonder what is expected of you next. Simply enjoy yourself. Swimming is a demanding sport requiring great self-discipline. With the usual highs and lows of a competitive sport, your achievements will have little meaning if you are not enjoying your swimming. So have fun and make sure that by your example other people enjoy swimming with you.  For older swimmers coming into the Club – become involved. There are many ways in which you can achieve this. In a formal way, you can offer your help with any aspect of the Club with which you may already have some experience. Approach the Coach in the first instance and he will guide you in the right direction. Informally, you can encourage the other swimmers around you, especially those less experienced, and be a positive influence at the sessions and at the Club in general.

Swimming for the younger ones is not an individual activity. Great demands are made on the parents’ time with long periods spent on poolside. Please use this time to help out. Every bit of help improves the Club, which is being run for the benefit of the swimmers – no one else. Being involved is the best way of improving the Club which is constantly evolving and any time you can contribute (helping at Galas, administration, etc) will move the improvements forward at a greater pace.

What You Can Expect From The Club

  • Good coaching

  • Well run sessions

  • Good competition at an appropriate level

  • Development of self-discipline

  • The opportunity to meet new people and form lasting friendships

Enclosed in this section is a more formal version of Expectations. These are not within the Rules of the Club, but serve as a guide for standards of good practice within the Club.

EXPECTATIONS FROM THE MEMBERS OF THE CLUB

  1. To observe the rules of the Club and the laws of the A.S.A.
  2. Not to do anything which may call the sport of Swimming or Water Polo or the Club, in particular into disrepute.
  3. To be polite and courteous to other Members, Coaches, Teachers and Officials of the Club, other clubs and the A.S.A.
  4. To attend all training sessions allotted to them and to ensure that they are changed and ready on the poolside at least five minutes before any training session commences. To attend squad session meetings and one-to-one meetings when requested to do so by the Club Coaches or Teachers.
  5. If reporting late to a training session, to ensure that the Coach or Teacher is aware that they have arrived and to give the reason for their late arrival.
