Once a swimmer has learned
properly to swim the teaching phase is over and there is a gradual transition
towards coaching. The focus is now geared towards competition. The
Clubs' calendar of events is planned to try to involve all members of the club
competing in competitions other that the Club Championships. Calendar
planning was identified by the A.S.A far back as 1969 and in 1995 it finally
produced its National Calendar. County, Regional, National, Speedo
League and Major Games dates are now known for the next 5 years.
With the plan set out and the
League galas in place the Club sets out its own internal championships. and then
looks for Inter-Club Competitions and Open Meets, which are normally on a first come
first accepted basis. We endeavour to offer all swimmers a chance to
compete at a level appropriate for them. It is important to compete in all of
the club championships, invited club galas and Open Meets. This
is one of the main ways that you can register any improvement in your swimming,
obtain entry times for galas, and is the reason
why we train.
The Fixtures List
is updated on a regular basis.
Note that at Club Championships and some outside galas age is defined by the swimmers age on 31 December of the
year in which the competition is held; however the majority of Open Meets,
County, Regional and National events age is defined as on the last day of the
individual competition. There are no exceptions; breach of
the age rule will result in disqualification.
The
Competition Secretary and
Team Manager will always welcome any comment and assistance in the smooth
running in organising entries to the above events.
