Personal Bests
Unlike so many other sports that
have no real measure of personal achievement, every time you compete a time is
recorded. So you have swum as hard as you could, come fourth in the final and
missed out on a medal. Disappointed? Of course, but no matter where
you finish and if you have done your best, you will probably have achieved a
Personal Best (PB) time. More than anything this provides excitement
and the satisfaction, which makes all the training worthwhile. Over time
you will see the shaving of the seconds over a given distance fall dramatically
and strive to achieve a PB every time you compete.
ALWAYS KNOW YOUR PERSONAL BEST TIMES
(particularly in your favourite strokes).
One-to-One Interviews are held at least annually
(in the autumn) by the Coaches with every swimmer at which a summary sheet is
provided giving your PB’s and setting those against the entry times for
County, Regional and National Championships. This exercise is valuable in
providing the swimmer with targets to aim for during the coming season.
PROGRESS RECORDS
The Swimmers Record Book is kept in the plastic wallet
at the front of your Members file. It should be self-explanatory but if you have any
concerns do ask any of the poolside staff who will be pleased to assist.
The Club’s computer maintains a
full history of times for each swimmer in the Club and this provides information
for the Competition Secretary and Team Manager in determining team selection. -
see team selection policy
Many older swimmers also keep
records of the distance they swim each week to record accurately the quantity of
training as well as their achievements. Do maintain your own records and
as a minimum keep the Record Book provided up to date.
