Bournemouth Dolphins Junior Meet 2006

Several no shows left us with 14 swimmers, but good performances across the squad netted 13 medals and many good P.B.s. 33 of the 53 races swam were faster than the programme time indicated. Several of the younger swimmers, though nervous, swam well.
The most impressive swim was left to last, with Hannah Hilsum-White racing in the penultimate heat of the penultimate event, the 50m Freestyle. Approaching the turn in 2nd place, she turned like lightning to come up in first place and stormed down the final 25m. She removed 1.7s off her programme time, netting gold ahead of faster swimmers from the final heat. A remarkable swim. (Who says that swimmers don't put into practice what John teaches on a Monday night!!!!). Hannah added a bronze to this as well. Mathis netted his obligatory gold in the 100m Breast, beating all but one of the next age group as well. A solid and dominating swim in his age group. Edward netted the other gold in a two-horse race in the 100m Fly. Edward led from the first turn, keeping perhaps too much of an eye on lane 6 (from lane 2!!!!), winning by a body length. Edward added a bronze also.
The most consistent swimmer was Sarah Hilsum-White with a silver and 3 bronze medals. Perhaps also sacrificing a gold in the 200m Free by stopping after 6 lengths. She was in 2nd place, but had closed to less than half a body length and was looking stronger than the leader, when the leading swimmer stopped, and Sarah did too!
Tilly Prowse netted two silvers, as well as two 4ths, to give a good all
round display. Rebecca Neilson rounded off the medals with a silver and bronze.
